Leadership Academy graduates can take what they learn and apply it in the Academic Year Fellowship, where they lead campus campaigns that challenge norms around animal product consumption and promote just, sustainable alternatives.
Monthly all-fellow sessions focused on building critical skills needed to be effective advocates and leaders.
Each week, fellows support each other in improving campaign effectiveness and overcoming challenges. They reflect on their learnings, consider different perspectives, develop systems thinking, and practice new skills.
Fellows are paired with an alumni mentor or a peer fellow mentor. Through regular check-ins, mentor-mentee pairs set goals, reflect on their personal and professional growth as advocates, navigate challenges, and apply what they’re learning in their campaigns.
Electives let fellows explore topics that matter most to them—from deep-dive sessions with movement leaders to community-building experiences and career development opportunities.

You won’t be doing this alone—your campaign partner, New Roots staff, and a community of fellows and alumni will support you every step of the way.

Fellows must complete the fellowship program requirements to be eligible for each Project Grant.
This is a sample schedule intended to show the general structure of the Academic Year Fellowship.
Specific timings will be determined with fellows’ schedules in mind.

I’m working to address the lack of awareness about the environmental, ethical, and health impacts of factory farming. Through workshops, campaigns, and educational outreach, I’m introducing plant-based alternatives and encouraging more sustainable food choices among youth.

My efforts over the course of the past two years recently led to the removal of the oatmilk upcharge at UCSD! I also hosted multiple plant-based cooking and food tasting events and led social media campaigns with UCSD dining.
