Philip holds an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University and a B.A. in Political Science from Binghamton University. Before joining New Roots Institute, he spent over a decade in education as a teacher, school leader, and program director. He began his career as an English teacher, later serving as an Assistant Principal focused on creating inclusive school cultures and supporting teachers to drive student success. Most recently, he led leadership development programs at Teach For America. Philip joined New Roots because he is passionate about building a just and sustainable food system—a commitment shaped by his experience supporting his parents’ vegetable farm in upstate New York. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with his two young children.
